Avraham “Avi” Hankin’s family

Avraham Hankin, known as Avi, was 38, a father of four, and an officer in Yamam, the Israel Police counterterrorism unit. A Times of Israel profile from May 2024 says that on October 7, 2023 he went out with the unit to the Sha’ar HaNegev junction, just outside Sderot, and was killed in an ambush. He was buried on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem on October 10. The profile says he grew up in Jerusalem, later lived in Alon, served in the Paratroopers, joined the police in 2008, and had been in Yamam for more than fifteen years. It names the children Eitan, Talia, Yael, and Gili.

That profile says the children live with his former wife, spelled there as Rebecca. The campaign spells her name Rebeckah Hankin and its own wording calls her a widow. This page does not call her his wife or his widow. Huldah Gronvall and Rebeckah are the co-organizers. The campaign says Rebeckah was born and raised in Minnesota. A February 10, 2024 update still on the page says Gronvall would receive the money and wire it to Rebeckah because GoFundMe did not then transfer to Israeli banks. The fundraiser was created to support Rebeckah and the children. It is not a fund for police or military equipment. On October 11, 2026 it still showed a donate link.
